Sunshine helping workers catch up

Power outages in some area counties

Today’s sunshine is a welcome sight for everyone, especially those working to make sure things can return to normal as quickly as possible.

Although St. Francis County appeared to avoid additional freezing rain Thursday, some areas to the south were not as lucky.

Woodruff Electric is reporting about 500 customers without power today in Lee, Monroe and Phillips counties.

“We had a total of 12 poles that were broken yesterday afternoon that are all spread out throughout those three counties in the southern half of our service territory,” said Anna Howton, spokesperson for Woodruff Electric. “Crews are working hard to get power restored to all of those members today as quickly and safely as possible.”

The Entergy Arkansas outage map shows several outages in Lee and Phillips counties and some in Monroe County. Entergy is reporting no outages today in St. Francis County.

The Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department is

also reporting some problems on rural roadways, but said main highways are clear.

“From Highway 70 to the south we had quite a bit more freezing rain overnight on Wednesday,” said ArDOT District 1 Engineer Cannon Callicott. “We made decent progress yesterday and last night. Most of our primary routes are in good shape. There were some additional trees that fell late yesterday and overnight, but we have all of those at least out of the road. Today we will focus on secondary roads.”

“We are thrilled to see the sunshine out this morning to melt the ice, which will make our power restoration efforts easier to accomplish today for our members,” said Howton.

“With the sunshine, we hope everything is cleared out by the end of the day,” said Callicott. “Shady areas may still be a problem, depending on the temperatures.”
